Ernesto A. Lanza, shareholder in Greenberg Traurig’s Public Finance Practice, will be participating in the 529 Conference hosted by PlanAdviser from Sept. 29-30 in Orlando. PlanAdviser’s Third Annual 529 Conference will drill down into the most significant trends and challenges facing the industry today, including critical conversation and debate surrounding the latest product innovations, investment options, distribution strategies, marketing initiatives, consumer trends, and much more.
Lanza will join as a panelist in the session titled “ABLE’s Next Steps (Achieving a Better Life Experience Act)” on Sept. 30. The discussion will include an overview and history of the ABLE Act as well as a discussion of legal, investment, and marketing outlooks, strategies, opportunities, and challenges, among other topic areas. The ABLE Act, signed into law by President Obama in December 2014, authorizes states to establish tax-free savings accounts for individuals with disabilities and is modeled in many respects after 529 college savings plans. Lanza will discuss potential securities law implications that state sponsors of ABLE Act programs as well as private sector service providers to the programs may need to consider as these programs are implemented.
